Joe and Mary Anne named the team The Neptunes to honor both The Neptunes, music producing duo of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, and the city of Virginia Beach’s unofficial mascot, King Neptune. When the team got their first round of jerseys printed, they printed jerseys with the names “Skateboard P,” “Hugo,” and “Star Trak.” They attempted to give the jerseys to radio hosts of Z104, a local station hosting a music festival. They were convinced that the jerseys more than likely didn’t make it to the duo.

On JUNE 16, 2018, Joe and Mary Anne got their second chance when Z104 hosted Shaggfest at the Veterans United Home Loan Amphitheater with N.E.R.D. scheduled to headline. N.E.R.D. is a hip hop and rock band comprised of the duo and Shay Haley. They made it to the front with a few members of their bridal party (Melvin Laguerta, Carmiliza Riculan, Tyler Demetriou, and Melicia McGourn) and Mary Anne spent half of the N.E.R.D. act cheering and holding up the Skateboard P jersey which caught Pharrell’s eye a few times during their performance. During one of the breaks a security guard came up to them and told them that he might be able to help them get the jersey to Pharrell if they couldn’t get it to him during the show. Their persistence eventually paid off when Pharrell made his way over to their side one last time. Mary Anne threw the jersey up to him and he caught it and stuck it in his back pocket as you can see in the featured photo. At the end of their act they threw up the rest of the jerseys which were caught by production assistants helping breakdown the stage.
